An educational field trip took place on Friday 30th October 2015, giving the opportunity to final year Architecture students and postgraduates from the University of Neapolis (Pafos) to visit the Eleftheria Square Site. The visit took place as part of the LOIS Builders Corporate Social Responsibility Programme for student support.
The visit took place in two stages, the first part being a presentation of the Project and the technical challenges faced, held in the conference facilities of the Municipal Council, with the kind support of the Nicosia Municipality. The second phase was a tour at the actual Site, so that the students had the opportunity to view and experience the construction of the project first hand.
During the presentation, reference was made to the general framework of design, the main architectural features, the scale and timeframe of the construction of the project, as well as the technical particularities of the specific design. With regards to these technical particularities, the construction methods used to overcome the complexity of the project were also outlined, as they are methods not usually used in contemporary construction.
After the presentation the Project Manager Dr. Iordanis Hidiroglou led the tour of the Site, along with the Managing Director of the Company, Mr. Nicholas Lois. The students came into contact directly with the basic components and materials of construction. The construction techniques used were also presented and the students were able to understand the practical implementation of the information given during the first presentation.
